Hi from a fellow atheist who used to live in Tigard once upon a time. Actually I recanted my Christianity a couple of years ago, and not surprisingly 99% of my Christian friends disowned me. Most of them didn't even have the courage to say why. They just started ignoring me. But my ex-pastor was the most vicious about it. He told me he didn't care whether I was a Christian or not, the problem was actually ME--I'm a terrible person, my life is headed for utter devastation, etc. Oh well.
Being an atheist has been lonelier than I imagined it would. I thought, "Well, there will be lots of people who will accept this," but I have found that this isn't true. Even my eight-year-old son has difficulty with friends because he doesn't believe in God and Santa Clause. Yet we are actually more "moral" than almost anyone we know, and perfectly willing and able to defend our moral views rationally without needing to resort to faith. Anyway, I like your blog.
